Photography cannot be compared with time because it is not meant to capture "time". Photography is meant to capture a feeling, an emotion or even a simple action. For example, in Blow Up michel is taking a picture of the young man and the woman. during this he examines the scene and assumes many different things about the scene. He pretends to know about the young mans brother and many other details that he cannot possibly know. This implies that he is not trying to capture time so much as the feelings that are shared between the two people.

Are you saying that it is possible to catch an emotion with a photograph? sure you can get a picture of someone smiling or frowning but can you really get the TRUE emotion out of this?
ReplyDeletei tend to disagree with this idea. it states that a photograph is "meant " capture time where as that statement refutes it self for time and the photograph are working against one an other. i would argue that a paint is more suitable to capture emotions and so forth better then any photo could.
ReplyDeleteI agree when it says that the photo is meant to capture and emotion or a feeling, but both of them are going to happen in a certain time. Without the time, there's no way a photo can be taken. And the time doesn't need to be necessarily a moment, but the period the film will be exposed.
ReplyDeletei both agree and disagree with cody's argument. Yes a photo captures feelings , but they change depending on the person, and if the event is in any way relatable to the person viewing the image. I disagree that he said photography isn't meant to capture time. Its not essentially doing that, but its capturing a specific event in time.
